Teaching

I currently offer lessons for oboists of all abilities, from beginners to advanced students and those preparing to continue studies at university. All ages are welcome. Offering lessons online or in-person at my studio in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Teaching Philosophy

I focus on building strong fundamentals so that students feel comfortable with the basics of the oboe. Together we set clear goals to keep lessons motivating and fun. 

Students learn proper posture and playing position, breathing and blowing technique, long tone exercises, warm-ups, followed by scales, musical etudes, method books, and longer musical works so they can grow step by step as players. 

I help my students gain the confidence and tools to problem-solve on their own during independent practice and encourage expression and experimentation so each student’s unique personality can shine through.

Reed Policy

I sell my own handcrafted reeds exclusively to my students. These reeds are carefully made to support proper playing and development catered to the individual student. Students are welcome to purchase reeds directly from me, but if they prefer, I am also happy to recommend trusted suppliers and other options for purchasing reeds.

Cancellation Policy

I understand that schedules can change. If you need to cancel, please give at least 24 hours’ notice so that we can reschedule your lesson. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged in full, as that time has been set aside especially for you.
